TRAFFIC UPDATE Temporary traffic lights to be installed at Gravel Pit Road
As construction continues on the Regina Bypass, temporary traffic lights will be installed at the intersection of Gravel Pit Road and Highway 1 East. The traffic signals are expected to be installed and operational the week of November 7, 2016.
Following the movement of traffic from the Pilot Butte Access to Gravel Pit Road on Oct. 18, the Bypass team has been monitoring the changing traffic patterns in the area. Due to changes in the driving environment at the intersection, the decision was made to install the temporary traffic signals. Trucks will also be hauling across the highway at the intersection for construction on the north side of Highway 1.
New speed limits will accompany the installation of the traffic lights. The speed limit from the Regina city limits to the old Pilot Butte access road will now be 70 km/h.
From the old Pilot Butte access road to Balgonie the speed limit will be 80 km/h except through the RBDB construction zones, where the speed drops to 60 km/h.
Paved service roads on both sides of Highway 1 provide motorists with easy access to the intersections with traffic lights at Highway 48 and Gravel Pit Road. The Bypass Team will continue to monitor traffic flow throughout the winter.
We thank all residents for their patience and understanding as we work to improve the safety and transportation system in the area over the long term.
